Aquaculture:
Thanks to their unique properties, APR’s products are ideally suited to marine, tropical and wet environments. No material can match them for durability, environmental friendliness and cost effectiveness.
APR has developed a range of products specifically for the aquaculture industry: oyster poles, pontoons, jetty lumber, wharf beams and deck boards.
APR poles make ideal oyster poles, offering unique advantages over competitor products such as wood, steel or other plastic:
- Inert in sea-water; no rotting or rusting
- Does not carry disease
- Cannot be damaged by sea creatures
- Resistant to barnacle encrustation
- Not affected by harmful marine worms. (Ideal in the areas with terredo worm problems in racking.)
- Increase in strength after submersion in water
- Does not leach chemicals
- Does not crack or split
- Flexible – poles do not break if bumped by barges or boats
- Can be cut, drilled, screwed, bolted and stapled
- Uniform in length and diameter
- Pliable – survive strong tides and storms
- Lightweight - easy to handle, pack, transport and install
- Smooth finish - no need for protective gloves
- Smooth surface - easy to clean
- Minimal maintenance
- Minimal UV weathering
- Looks good in marine environments in its natural grey colour

Case study:
Aquaculture
Oysters are particularly sensitive to chemicals in the water. Whereas wooden poles are often treated with bitumen or chromium arsenates, APR’s posts are chemically inert.
South Australia's largest oyster-growing lease, in the pristine waters of the state’s west coast, has special “clean-water approval”, giving their oysters a competitive edge in lucrative national and global markets. Farmers such as Mark Jarvis from Oysters Amalgamated are delighted with APR oyster poles:
“We were continually replacing wooden posts as we snapped them, but we've never broken an APR pole. If we hit one hard it just flexes, and they also clean very easily. There are no hassles and we get double, triple or four times the life-span.”
